I've been a longtime fan of Double Wide, and have eaten at the Southside and Mars locations for years. When I saw a location was opening in at the old Teddy's location, I was really excited. Greensburg/Irwin is littered with sub-par national chains and there aren't a lot of good local dining options in the area.
I took my parents to Double Wide on a visit, and it quickly became clear that Double Wide just wasn't a good fit for the area. The two things I love the most about Double Wide - the playful irony of the menu and the wide selection of vegetarian options - were completely lost on this customer base. Within seconds of being seated, the waitress came over and almost apologetically told us not to even worry about the last two pages of the menu because those were vegetarian. She seemed a little shocked when I explained that I came to Double Wide BECAUSE of the vegetarian menu.
The food was good, though maybe a slight tick below the quality I've come to expect from the other locations. But the overall charm and tone that Double Wide has at the other locations wasn't there. It just felt flat, and like they were trying too hard to be like Texas Roadhouse or Applebee's, when the appeal has always been that Double Wide is quite the opposite in a tongue in cheek way.
