Mundo is one of those places you want to keep a secret because it's just so perfect that you're worried it will change if it becomes really big. The eastern inspired decor and the dim (but not too dim) lighting set the stage as soon as you walk in. The magic continues with the food. Chips with three different types of salsas take the place of the standard dinner rolls and my friend and I took dipping turns to determine our favorite of the three (it was difficult because all 3 really hit the mark!) I also highly recommend the sangria, which is served perfectly chilled.
For dinner, I took our server's suggestion of the Shrimp Tamale, while my friend decided on their Pollo Rostisado (Chicken in Tamarind Sauce) -- both were excellent! I asked them to spice the shrimp up a bit and it came out perfectly -- not too spicy but just spicy enough -- which was a perfect compliment to the slightly sweet tamale.
Despite some folks' experience, we found service to be excellent. Our server was only too happy to answer our questions about the menu, make suggestions and check up on us to make sure things were okay. And, even though we closed down the resto on a random weeknight, the service folks were only smiling and asking us to "Come again soon." I heart Mundo and cannot wait for my next visit.
