I am writing this as a farewell to a sincerely superb establishment that I believe added something unique to the South Park community in the past year. To the owners of the former Tiki Hideaway, I applaud you for your courage to try something new and give the people of Charlotte something they had never experienced before - perhaps it was something the community was not ready for yet. To those who embraced the Hideaway: THANK YOU for trying to bring some "realness" to this generally cookie-cutter city. Your drinks, food, ambiance, customer service, décor, and love for all things tiki were genuinely outstanding and unprecedented. I have been to tiki bars all over this country (and other countries) and this was as good as it gets. To the individual who was rude enough to write nasty comments the week of the Hideaway closing - starting a small business is hard. It can only work if the business is supported by the community. I am sorry you were not able to experience the magic of the Hideaway at it's peak. I guess you must really have to be a "special" kind of a person to add salt to a wound via a Yelp review. I know the Hideaway is now closed BUT I wanted to leave this review in hopes that the owners and the community will bid adieu on a HIGH note. You were phenomenal. I will always remember the great nights I've had here with my friends, the bands, and the staff. I will miss my Painkillers! I wish the owners THE BEST of luck and say MAHALO for some great memories.
