| - Cool, new looking venue. But, concert tickets can get pricey. For my first visit and concert at The Van Buren, I paid extra for the mezzanine section. I'm 5'3", so GA standing room can typically be a struggle to view the concert. I go to concerts to see the performance and generally stick to small venues. If I wanted to just listen to music, I can do that at home (etc). I was looking forward to actually being able to see a live concert, because I paid extra to do so. Well, that excitement was crushed days before the concert when I received an email stating that if I wanted to spend an additional $50 per ticket, I could get a reserved seat at the front of the mezzanine section, called 'Marty's Party'. Wait just a minute!! I already paid extra for an upgraded ticket and now you are telling me that if I don't pay even more, that other people can be in front of me and I have no choice, but to stand behind them. Well, I couldn't justify spending $50 on top of the surplused ticket I had already purchased and without seeing the inside of the venue. Needless to say I was disappointed once at the venue and after what I thought was a good position to watch the concert. The reserved high top seats extend around the entire balcony and there is a metal bar dividing seated people from those standing behind them. I'm giving 3 stars because the employees were friendly, the venue is cool looking and had great sound. Also, the concert I went to was sold out, so it was a packed house. I spent most of the evening moving side to side trying to look between backs and heads, so I could see the band/singer. If there is a next time, I'll save my money and purchase GA. (Photos uploaded of my view with just one person sitting in front of me and before the others came to sit down. And additional photos of the venue).
