Edit: Thank you Pete for your kind explanation.
I don't know much about bikes, but all I wanted was to get an affordable bike to get around.
That's exactly why one of the staff showed me the only bike they had on clearance. It was a foldable bike (that I didn't ask for) with unusually small wheels. Like I said, I didn't know much about bikes, but it was clearly not a regular bike that I wanted to get. But would he ask questions as to what I had in mind? No, because I asked for a cheap bike - it's a clear sign of dude who doesn't know what he's buying, so why not sell the last bike in the shop. His sales pitch was convincing, but the lack of willingness to show me other bikes made me feel that I was almost being forced an only option. Did I mention that this bike was NOT the cheapest bike they had?
I'm sure those who know their way around can get reasonable deals out of these people. But just remember that if you don't know what you're doing, they won't hesitate to sell you whatever's left in their clearance with very little regard for what you actually need.
