  • There is a lot to love about Nature's Bin, so I'll just start with my top 10: 1. Shopping here supports a local business - always a good thing. 2. Lots of locally-grown and/or organic produce. I can't wait for fall apple season - I get my honeycrisp apples here, and they're amazing. 3. The prices are fair - yes, the produce you pick up here will likely be, pound for pound, more expensive than the imported stuff you would get at Marc's. However, the cost difference, to me, is negligible and the quality is great. Also, see #2 above. 4. They have most of the specialty products I can't find anywhere else: Veganaise, fake meat, etc. Whenever I read a new recipe that calls for an ingredient I've never heard of, I am sure to find it at Nature's Bin. 5. Nature's Bin is the only place where I've noticed this: tiny, pre-portioned amounts of produce. For instance, I love that I can buy like 8 fingerling potatoes, pre-packaged for about a dollar, rather than counting them out of the a bulk produce bin into a bag. I don't know why this makes a difference to me, but it does, and it's lovely. (I even re-use the trays the pre-packaged portion comes in to collect kitchen compost while cooking, so I can't even complain about the additional packaging waste this could create). 6. Those bulk chocolate covered pretzels - OMG! 7. The prepared food section is fantastic. There are tons of vegetarian options - again, the portions are perfect for lunch, and the prices are reasonable, when you consider other "fast" lunch options (ie, Subway, eating out, etc.) 8. The location is very convenient - it is in Lakewood but actually has a big parking lot. 9. They have a shopper loyalty card, and another card that you can get punched if you bring your own bags. 10. Last, but definitely not least: I love that Nature's Bin assists people with disabilities with job training and life skills. It feels good to spend money at a place that will use it to help people achieve great things. The ONLY negative thing I could say about this place is that, yes, it is a little cramped and the selection of non-perishables is somewhat limited (ie, it's definitely not a Heinens!).
