I fell in love at least 20 times in the first ten minutes at this grocery store, beginning with this entryway mural spelling out "Smith's" in fake citrus, continuing with a bountiful selection of produce, gourmet boxed meals for people who don't take to cooking very much, a BAR!!, and frozen entrees by the pound.
That's where the love the ended. After filling our grocery cart with (I would guess) $400 worth of groceries we didn't anticipate buying, we got to the check-out lines. They were long. They didn't move. Nothing was happening. Eventually, word spread down each line that the system crashed and all they were accepting was cash or checks. People were walking out and abandoning their carts. As we did.
There was so much that could have been done. Announcements could have been made. Management could have people working the lines letting people know of the situation. Instead, people kept shopping and wheeling full carts to the check out lines.
My partner said he will never go back again. I will, but I'll make sure that everything is working first.
