  • Y.R.T. is one of the worst public transit systems in all of the Greater Toronto Area (G.T.A.) and here's a reason why: 1. Rude and inexperienced bus drivers: I once took the route 99 bus to the Finch terminal and my god was the driver ignorant, lazy and above all else, rude. When I boarded the bus, I simply had asked him in a gentle tone, "Will it cost me extra to go past Steeles avenue (the border between the city of Toronto and York region) and go to the Finch terminal?" and he then snapped at me and said "What do I look like to you? transit enforcement? You will find out when we pass it now go and sit down!". What is the meaning of this? All I wanted to know if there is an extra fare required because I know that T.T.C. charges us extra to go past Steeles avenue and go into York region. Y.R.T. is very vague with this information on their system map and list. 2. Ridiculous transit enforcement laws: Hey, do you want to receive a $155 ticket ON A COLD WINTER DAY WHERE THE FRICKIN BUS IS RUNNING SLOW TO GO TO NEWMARKET??? Well now you can, thanks to SECTION 2.10 of BY-LAW #R-1415-2005-028 which simply translates into "REGARDLESS IF YOU BOARD THE BUS AND YOUR TRANSFER IS STILL VALID, BUT IT TAKES THE BUS TO DAMN LONG TO GO TO YOUR DESTINATION AND IT EXPIRES ONCE YOU ARRIVE AT YOUR DESTINATION, OUR TRANSIT ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WILL GIVE YOU A $155 TICKET REGARDLESS IF IT WAS VALID AT POINT OF BOARDING. HA! HA! YOU SUCK! AND MORE MONEY FOR US! And yes, this did happen to me in the winter of 2007. Ironically enough, I was taking that VIVA bus to which I was fined at Newmarket terminal the SAME DAY to go to the Newmarket court to dispute a "refusal to show I.D. when WALKING and NOT DRIVING ticket" which were compliments of NOTHING BETTER TO DO, NEO-FASCIST YORK REGIONAL POLICE. 3. Malfunctioning ticket machines that don't work properly when you deposit your coins into them. Not to mention that most of them freeze up when you put your credit card in as payment. I told this to a transit enforcement officer and he simply told me "not my department. sorry. Where's your ticket?" 4. BUSES NOT ARRIVING ON TIME AS EXPECTED thus not only wasting your time, but the transfer's 2 hour limit as well. 5. EXPENSIVE FARE which is $3.75. WTF?? I could buy a cup of coffee and a cherry-cheese danish with that money. Why is it so expensive for a ridiculous service? With these 5 points being said, I therefore will boycott the Y.R.T. and simply will just go to work on my e-bike in the near future cause its not only FREE to ride, but ENFORCEMENT FREE and FASTER! So if you had or have any of these 5 problems, THEN LET'S ALL GET TOGETHER ONE DAY AND BOYCOTT THE Y.R.T. to show them who's really the boss of the Y.R.T.
