| - Staff and kitchen are responsive to dietary requirements, but there are few gluten-free, vegetarian options and zero vegan options.
For this meal I went alt-veg to include dairy and egg (I have no idea why unborn chicken embryos are included in vegetarianism, but apparently it's a thing...)
My husband and I visited this popular spot for Sunday Brunch and tried three menu items. We came here mostly for the drink specials: bottomless mimosas ($15) and make-your-own bloody mary.
The mimosas were truly excellent. Try the guava! But bottomless mimosas need to be served quickly and that was not the case here. We spent more time waiting for mimosas than we did drinking them, although our server did his best and finally just stared bringing more without asking. I wish this deal was $12.99 (max) instead of $15.
The bloody mary bar was way too much fun! Plenty of fixings and sauces to add in. The house mix was standard and worked well with the extras.
1. Vegetarian Masa Boat Surprise: Scrambled egg with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and cheese atop a cornbread slice sitting on black beans, with corn tortillas on the side. Surprise! There was also cream cheese between the cornbread and scrambled egg mix. I was confused by the use of the cornbread as it made the dish dry and served as an additional grain/starch when paired with tortillas. But if you're going for a filling egg-based dish that's rather tasty due to its animal components (including cheese), then go for it and you won't be disappointed.
2. Falafel Salad: I've had better falafel. This falafel was dry and flavorless, plus I think it was a bit overcooked. The pickled onions were a nice touch, and the pita bread slices were flavorful, but on the whole this dish was rather boring. The yogurt was too minty.
3. Carrot Cake Pancakes: Great carrot cake flavor and a delightful cream cheese frosting-syrup. Make sure you have a bit of the fresh strawberries with each bite - their tartness plays well with the cakes and syrup. One of the cakes was overcooked and black on the bottom, making the cake hard to cut and affecting the overall flavor.
Our brunch experience at this hipster joint cost $60 plus tip, and yet I could have caught more of a buzz from the drink specials. I might end up here again, but I won't be chomping at the bit for another try.
