  • This is a great zoo! We are very fortunate to have this facility here in the valley. The landscaping is beautiful and diverse and the surrounding park/area is also wonderful. The Phoenix Zoo has great educational programs and information available to the public. I have enjoyed every visit here since I was a child. However, there were a few concerns that I have, which prevented me from giving the Phoenix Zoo a 5-star review. While most animals appeared in excellent condition, I noticed that the animals in the Wolf habitat and one of the Big Cat habitats appeared extremely stressed and anxious. These animals were nervously pacing back and forth. I even heard other guests say "what is wrong with these animals?" so the condition of these animals was not only concerning to me, but to other guests as well. What made this situation absolutely unacceptable was that there were no zookeepers in sight. We stayed for about 20 minutes at each exhibit and never saw a single zookeeper even attempt to care for these animals that were obviously stressed. Zoo keepers should respond to this immediately and the Phoenix Zoo management needs to train them better to ensure that experiences like this do not happen again in the future as someone needs to be monitoring the condition of these animals more closely. My other issue is with the pricing. For just general admission alone, my wife and I paid $49.90 total. We were both shocked when we were asked "if we wanted to make it an even $50 and donate 10 cents to conservation." The reason this answer shocked us is because it made it seem as if the $25 tickets are all just going toward some CEOs profit instead of conservation programs. This caused us to view the tickets as overpriced and left a negative impression in our minds as we would've expected a large portion of ticket costs to go towards conservation already since the costs were so high. If this is not the case, the Phoenix Zoo should do a better job of getting this information out to the customers so that the customers don't feel like they are being overcharged and that the ticket sales are only going towards profit and no amicable causes.
