| - ***REST IN PEACE, ROXIE***
INTAKE TIME: 2:15 PM
EUTHANIZED BY 2:48PM
Deeply shocked, saddened, and disgusted at the actions of Maricopa County Animal Care & Control's Mesa location today.
A 22-year old stray was taken to the Rio Salado location and was euthanized IN LESS THAN AN hour. Absolutely NO stray hold whatsoever was given to this poor pup, who was receiving private vet care at her home. The family had planned to let Roxie go in peace with family by her side. Instead, Roxie left us frightened and confused and alone. The vet waited until after putting Roxie to sleep to communicate with the family on how to retrieve the remains.
The intake photo, POSTED BY MARICOPA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE & CONTROL, clearly shows Roxie standing on all four legs, looking straight at the camera, with no visible signs of injury or distress. The intake photo was then taken down immediately.
To say that the family is horrifically devastated would be a VAST understatement.
I find it very unsettling that something like this happens and no one is held accountable. Our dogs, or ANY animal for that matter, are our FAMILY, and deserve to be treated with care and compassion. I strongly advise anyone who finds a stray animal to stay FAR away from MCACC, and explore all other possible options.
