| - I have struggled for awhile about whether or not to write a review, but we based our decision to enroll our son in this school in part due to all of the glowing reviews.. Those reviews, and the fact that it is a really cool place with lots of activities and a STEAM focus sold us. (Please refer to their FB page for a longer, more detailed review)
Sadly, it was a very poor decision for our son, who attended from October 2, 2017, through December 8, 2017, before we pulled him out, and I am hoping that by writing this review, a parent who may have a child similar to mine would give it some thought and consideration before enrolling their child here. The issues we experienced - very inexperienced staff, no follow through, a student teacher ratio is maxed out to the point if a teacher is absent, they have to play a huge game of tetris in rearranging kids for the day so as not to be over ratio, no consistency in teachers, major mistakes in learning materials, to name a few, multiple instances of my child being hit, bit. This review is long but worth the read in order to make an informed decision. What every parent worries about when sending their child to daycare - is he safe, will he be fed, will he nap, will he be happy?? Disappointingly, the answers to all of those were for the most part a solid no while my son was at CLA.
Let me start by saying my son can be a challenging child - very strong willed, stubborn, coupled with the fact that he is advanced for his age and thus needs perhaps more attention than other children might. We thought the heavily focused education program that CLA supposedly was would be just what he needed to stimulate him and challenge him He has had behavior issues, which we were very transparent and upfront with when we toured the school and spoke with the management team. Any concerns we had going into the visit were allayed and were were very excited for him to attend, and enrolled him on the spot.
He started with a MWF scheduled. We were repeatedly assured that there were plenty of openings and there would be no issue in him going to full time when we felt he was ready. I repeatedly asked to move him to full time, which was ignored. Teacher in the Art room seemed a bit disconnected and totally unprepared pretty much everyday. The class was clearly at maximum capacity and then some.
In the first 8 days my son was there, I got 7 calls about him being hit, bit or otherwise injured, including bite marks on his hand and cheek that bruised black and blue and lasted several days. the concerns I voiced were dismissed. Holy crap - was I sending him each day to a warzone???
We weren't allowed to bring a packed lunch for my picky eater each day. He was starving every day and more often than not he was not fed the back up food we left at the school for him
His behavior during this time at school and home dramatically worsened to the point he became aggressive to things and to his teachers, something not seen before. He was able to run out the front doors of the school TWICE, which are a very small parking lot away from a supremely busy street - Durango. After what he went through there, I don't blame him trying to escape!
He is happy at his new school and has NOT ONE report of anything happening to him nor has he had any behavior issues in the 6 weeks he's been at his new school. I would again encourage parents to give it some hard thought before enrolling your child to be absolutely sure it is the best fit for your child .
