  • Very little makes me as homesick for the city of Cleveland than the West Side Market. My passion for cooking came as I got older, but my folks have frequented the market my whole life. I took for granted how fresh and delicous their cooking was until I was on my own; real chefs know how important fresh ingredients are in preparation of their food. The market is an awesome source for fresh and cheap produce. Vendors hawk their wares in an old fashioned style, imploring you to try bites. Very inexpensive. Inside the building, every kind of flavor of food awaits. Smoked meats, Latin food, Asian food, fresh caught fish, homemade cheese, and middle eastern delicacies are just a sampling of the food. I tend to fill a large cooler with all the bits I can't get locally in RI; kielbasi, tamales, fruit salsa, real seeded Jewish rye, local hummus, goat cheese, etc. These things can be found, out this way....but not on the cheap, and not in one glorious location. Also! Check out the restaurant on the premises (great breakfast) and in the area. (Bar cento and biermarket are Directly across the street, and have some of the best happy hour selctions around. Great locales, too)
