| - We had a wonderful time at the Glendale Arena. I think it is now called the Gila River Arena.
We went to a hockey game 12/16/17. The Coyotes vs. the Penguins. I am a lifelong Penguins fan and my husband bought the tickets for us, to celebrate my birthday.
We had amazing seats, less than twenty rows off the ice and on the blue line. This gave me a chance to see the Penguin's goal tending up-close, twice. I loved it. The price was reasonable too. We would never have been able to get seats like this in Pittsburgh. They just aren't available, not at any price.
I feel (slightly) bad saying it, the place was packed with Penguin's fans. It was like a Pittsburgh reunion. I felt (slightly) bad for the Coyote's fans. The crew filming had a hard time getting shots with only Coyote's fans in them. There was a ton of black and gold.
The arena itself is great. The place still feels new and is very clean. There are plenty of places to get snacks and drinks. There wasn't a line at the women's restroom, even between periods. The restrooms were close to our section and there were restrooms the whole way around the arena. We had our infant son with us, on our lap (no charge), and there was enough room for everyone.
The arena is in a mall, they call it an entertainment complex. There was a live jazz band and lots of nice Christmas decorations. I regret not getting a meal here before or after the game. We did have fancy popcycles. We walked around a bit after the game, a good way to avoid sitting in traffic. Forty-five minutes after the game ended we were able to pull out of the parking lot without any traffic.
We drove down from Tucson on game day and drove home shortly after the game. There is a hotel right next to the arena and I hear it is fun to stay there.
I would go to another game at the Gila River Arena. I think it is a great deal, as far as NHL tickets are concerned. This arena is a nice place to watch an NHL game.
