Oh, how I love me some donuts.
Is there a better way to start your day off on the proverbial wrong foot of nutrition than with deep fried sugary goodness?
No. There is not.
Enter O-face Donuts which sits right next to Carson Kitchen, another downtown favorite among locals. The old downtown area is starting to really come together with the renovations of recent months and years to the area and O-face is a compliment to this direction. They offer donuts in just about every variety, from fancy to basic to outlandishly decadent. The wife opted for a more classic option in a chocolate glazed. My tastes landed me on an old-fashioned, which is my go-to at most donut shops I visit.
The chocolate glazed was a decent donut. Not as light and fluffy as I prefer but this could do with the fact that we visited at almost noon so the difference a few hours makes in texture and consistency is something to note. Glaze was standard. Delicious but not unique. I mean, it's chocolate frosting. Not gonna screw that up.
The old fashioned had a bit of a strange taste that I couldn't pin-point. Also I like my old fashioneds to have a bit of a hard shell from the fried process followed by a soft light center beneath the crust. Their offering was mostly the light softness with little to no crust. Bit of a let down in terms if my expectations.
Take your family, take the kids, hell bring the dogs.
Downtown is more than Fremont and late night hipster bars.
O-Face is a prime example.
