| - TLDR: Flight Network is the worst online travel agency ever existed on earth.
I've never had any major problems with booking plane tickets via a third party agency - expedia, kayak, independent agencies, you name it. But during my family vacation to Hawaii over the past winter break, my dad, aunt and uncle's flights were such a pain to deal with thanks to Flight Network.
My cousin made this one way reservation for them from Maui to Shanghai with a layover in Honolulu. Initially she made sure there were about two or three hours in between the two flights so my family could have plenty of time to wait for the international flight. However, FN changed their first flight from 6am to 8am randomly, and we didn't notice until half way through the vacation. Now they only have one hour layover time! One hour is enough only if you're lucky. Moreover, it was incredibly irresponsible that FN issued these tickets with Hawaiian Airlines for the first leg and China Eastern for the second. Please note, these two airlines are NOT PARTNERS, which means you have to take your checked luggage out after the first flight, and go through the security again!!! Hawaiian Airlines couldn't print out the luggage tag for the final destination or boarding passes, which is a huge inconvenience. Moreover, both Hawaiian Airlines and Maui airport agents said one hour is not enough for them to transfer the checked bags from one plane to another.
I called FN multiple times spending more than an hour in total talking with their agents and being put on hold, but they kept telling me the connection is valid. Theoretically, yes. Practically, are my family going to make the second international flight having to come out of the terminal and go through security again? We wouldn't know until tomorrow. My family already decided not to have checked bags so they could save time, but it's been incredibly inconvenient because my mom and I have to carry four giant suitcases back to LA. Also, when I tried to change their first leg to the an earlier one, the fare difference and change fee would come out to be 900 per person, which is more expensive than their entire ticket from Maui to Shanghai. The agent on the phone also blamed me because apparently it was my responsibility that I booked the ticket? Excuse me? This OTA is incredibly irresponsible for issuing this ticket for the first place, and putting two flights from non partner airlines together with only an hour in between. Also, if my family weren't smart enough to have rest of us carry their checked bags back to states, they'd almost certainly miss the international flight. There's also a chance that China Eastern wouldn't even be able to help them rebook their second leg, since they don't have an interairline agreement with Hawaiian. Overall, FN caused this problem, and they literally couldn't offer any reasonable solutions but instead blamed everything on me. They have terrible customer ratings on both Yelp and BBB, and they are so deserving of these bad reviews.
I'm going to file a BBB complaint.
