| - This was the best, fully guided tour of Hoover Dam, Lake Meade, Historical Route 66 and the Grand Canyon. We were picked up at our Las Vegas hotel at 530AM. The tour was accompanied by the best tour guide ever named Chad. Chad was knowledgeable, informative and so much fun!!! He kept us constantly entertained with his stories about points of interest we passed and by giving us little riddles and quizzes underway.
The tour started with breakfast at the famous Golden Arches a.k.a. McDonalds (included in the tour).
Then it was off to the Hoover Dam and Lake Meade where we got an education in what was involved in the building of this immense massive hydro engineering structure and the creation of Lake Meade.
Next, off to Historic Route 66. All the while Chad educated us with its history and what it took to preserve this piece of Americana. After all the songs and lore about it, it was a thrill to be there.
We stopped at a place called Angel & Vilma's. Angel who played a key role in getting Route 66 preserved as a Historic landmark, now in his 90s, was a barber who was still practicing his craft the old fashion way and I was fortunate enough to capture it on camera.
Then off to the main event, The Grand Canyon. On the ride out there, Chad constantly pointed out any wild life we encountered such as deer and other wild life and he regaled us with stories and told us the history of various parts we passed through.
Arrived at the Grand Canyon, we started the walking tour. Again Chad was amazing. Told us all about the origin of the Grand Canyon and how it got its shape and colors. At a particular beautiful site we stopped for a pic-nick lunch (also included) of delicious sandwiches, fruit and all the water we could drink. Chad educated us about the wild life and the fauna of the Grand Canyon. He was so much fun and patiently took all the requests for group pictures, not only from our tour group but also from other visitors. Chad suggested the best places for pictures and even staged some of them so that they looked far more ominous than in reality. We even got to see a little non-venomous snake. The tour lasted at least a couple of hours and included some pretty steep hikes, awesome sites, and dazzling beauty.
Then it was time to return home. We made a few more small pit stops underway home and arrived back home at 930P. It was a fantastic trip that we will not soon forget. Another checkmark off our bucket list. Thank you Chad for making this trip so memorable and so much fun!
