  • Came here because the original place I wanted to dine at is closed for remodeling so I logged onto Yelp and decided to try this place since it's walking distance from where I'm staying. Prince Arthur Street is a quaint little street to grub on or to grab some drinks. When the weather is nice, the restaurants put out the tables and chairs and you can dine on the street, just as if you were in a European country. At around 8:30 PM we headed out for dinner and the place was packed. They asked if we had a reservation and we didn't, but it didn't seem to matter since there was room on the second floor. Once we were seated and given our waters and bread basket, here's the lo-down of what was ordered: -amuse bouche (chicken fennel pate): delicious! -escargots: tried it before and not my fave so didn't try it here -onion soup: two small pieces of bread in the sop and the beef broth was not at all salty. There was just the right amount of melted cheese as well. -salmon tartar: fresh, served chilled and tasty -hanger steak in shallots sauce with salad and fries ($18): the meat was cooked exactly as stated and the fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The salad was tasty...I think they added some type of seasoning to the dressing? -apple and sage chicken leg ($16): soft, moist chicken leg that fell off the bone and served on top of corkscrew pasta -classic creme brulee: I felt that the sugar top could have been harder and the cream part a bit too creamy for me. -lemon meringue tart: a definite must get! It was tangy and sweet and light as a feather! -petit pot crémeux au chocolat: small pot of semi-sweet chocolate mousse. It was okay. The food was of high quality here and the portions are quite large...definitely a good bang for your buck. The beef and chicken dishes didn't have a whole lot of flavor, but I've noticed food in Montreal is not as salty and heavily flavored with MSG like in the States. In any case, there's always salt and pepper on the table. We decided to go with the "add $10 to your main course and you can choose one appetizer and one dessert" which made your meal like a prix-fixe dinner and still pretty reasonable. We also ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir ($45) which ended up being the expensive part of the meal, but a lot of restaurants in Montreal will let you BYO wine and they'll open it for you (don't know what the corkage fee is). The ambiance is nice and authentically French. Our water didn't speak much English but we had no problem ordering. The menu is in both French and English. It's a 3 story restaurant and the place was quite crowded with the 3rd floor being reserved for a private party, the 2nd floor open (where we dined) and the street level full with diners inside and outside on the street. Service was quite leisurely and I'm still trying to figure out if that's because it was busy (only 2 servers for the entire place) or if it's a European thing. The only thing I didn't quite like was one of ladies who I first encountered when asking if they had a table for 3 available. Lucky for her the rest of my dining experience made up for that encounter.
