| - In terms of the shop itself, it was very plain. I realize that people are going there for the cupcakes, but it seemed very bare in there- more of a to go type place than a sit down and chat.
The price was reasonable for a cupcake place ($2 per cupcake) considering the one where I live charges $2.50.
When I saw the picture shown on their yelp page, I was expecting really cute cupcakes. They weren't ugly, but just not as cute as the picture. But apparently they can make those pretty cupcakes with the pretty wrappers upon request (probably for catering?).
I ended up getting the Cookies and Cream and the Dark Chocolate Raspberry. The frosting for both was VERY, VERY sugary and I think a whipped frosting (I'm no baker so I could be wrong.) The frosting was almost TOO sweet! But the cake part was moist and not very sweet so it offset the frosting. (For the record, I don't like things that are TOO sweet so when I say that the cake was not very sweet, I mean it as a compliment because the cupcake wasn't overbearingly sugary, sweet.)
The Cookies and Cream had a thin layer of chocolate cake or a cookie on the bottom. Like I said, the cake wasn't sweet but tasted good with the frosting and the little Oreo on top was a great touch!.
The Dark Chocolate Raspberry just seemed like very ordinary chocolate cake. The plus to this was the raspberry jam like filing. Although the cake was ordinary and not sweet, the raspberry filling added to the flavor.
I feel bad giving LaBella's a 3 star rating compared to all the other ratings that everyone else left because the cupcakes were pretty good and based on other reviews, it seems as though LaBella's is one of the better cupcake places in Cleveland. But compared to the cupcake place where I live, it's not as memorable. I would probably have given Labella's a 4 star if the place was cuter/friendlier.
