My husband and I went there to get his social security number today. We waited for over an hour before getting called to the window. While we were waiting the security guard had a confrontation with one of the ladies sitting next to me. This was an African American lady. He continually spoke over her as she tried to explain what was going on and tried to demean her while she was looking for help. It was so bad I stepped in and told him what he was doing was not fair. He wanted her to pick another number instead of helping her to get in front of someone because they'd obviously skipped over her number. This went on for at least five minutes till she shooed him away and said she didn't need his help.
My husband and I went to the window with all the correct forms and was told we also needed a second form of identification. Online it said OR a passport not AND. The lady helping us was being extremely rude but was still trying to help us with his one form of identification(because online it does say one or the other so she could have helped us). She just kept making it a point to say she's been working here for 9 years and she knows what it says and we misinterpreted it. Well we pulled it up in front of her and read it. It definitely said OR and not AND. She was in the process of putting his things in the computer but apparently changed her mind so stopped, handed our things back to us and told us to come back with a passport and started to turn away. She didn't even look us in the face while doing this. As I got up I said, "everyone here has been so rude.." which was 100% true. She started going off saying a bunch of things and closed her window on us making a big dramatic scene. At this point the security escorted us out.
My problem with people today and it was apparent here at the office is that they don't want to do their job. They almost try to do anything to avoid doing it. She was already putting our information in but decided just because she has the power to not do it, she will. I am extremely upset with the racism, abuse of power and lack of help today at a government center.
She was at window 17.
