| - Tried Avanti on the recommendation of a friend. We started with the calamari, which was lightly fried and seasoned--an excellent start to the meal. I had the pasta special. The gnocchi were absolutely the star of the plate---light and airy, so delicate they melt in your mouth. My husband had the surf and turf special, which had generous portions and was cooked very well; he says he couldn't get it in his face fast enough. We shared a desert trio of cannoli (crisp, sweet not cloying), tiramisu (flavorful and light), and the chocolate mousse cake (rich and decadent) along with robust, full-bodied coffee. The staff was pleasant, prompt and personable without being intrusive, old school professional! The decor is a bit dated, but the music selections of Louis Prima, Keenly Smith, and Tony Bennett set the mood perfectly.
