If I were to compare Halle Heart to other children's museums, I would probably give it 3 stars; however, I appreciate how inexpensive it is and let's face it, Phoenix can be brutal during the summer and we need plenty of cheap places to take our kids indoors to escape the heat. My kids also really enjoy it, so maybe 3 stars would be a bit harsh any way.
You have the pretend grocery store that seems to be present in 99% of children's museums, an area to putt balls through a giant pretend artery, a room with tiny tricycles and scooters for toddlers to scoot around in, some tv screens that play the same video clip of kids giving exercise tips (it is SO LOUD. And I am someone who has damaged my hearing from listening to headphones blasting all of my life and I am telling you, it is so loud I cringe every time a kid pushes the button to make it play again). Some toys spread around and... a couple other things (video games? A little area to sit and make art?) The coolest area to me has life-sized animals with models of their hearts to scale which light up and pump when you push the corresponding button. And that's basically the museum in a nutshell.
I imagine the museum is a lot more fun for little kids than older ones. Once they hit 8 or 9 years old I think they would be done with the exhibits very quickly. I appreciate the lessons about healthy eating and exercise, but kids are not going to spend too much time studying food pyramids and reading about heart disease. It seems a better space for little ones to run around and expend some energy.
