| - If it's possible to feel like a rock star the minute you walk into a place, then Lavo scores the top prize. Between the chandeliers, dim lighting, and Eastern-inspired decor, this place whisks you to a place far, far away. The fact that they serve decidedly Italian-fare here is kind of a misfit. But, if the food is good (which it is!) - who cares?? Your meal starts with warm garlic bread accompanied by a warm tomato sauce (LIP SMACK!) and where it goes from there is up to you! I highly recommend getting one of the 2-foot long flat bread pizzas (we opted for the spinach and artichoke, which was FAB); the roasted beet salad (DOUBLE LIP SMACK!!); and their tuna tartar app. (TRIPLE LIP SMACK!!).
Unfortunately, their penne vodka didn't quite live up to the hype of the other dishes (the peas included with the dish were SUPER hard though the vodka sauce was lovely). And, service at Lavo gets a bit spotty once it gets busy.
One last suggestion: if you go at night, try to sit either outside (depending on the temp) or inside near the window so you can see the Treasure Island Pirate Show across the street. While the locals have been there, done that, it's def. a tourista treat.
