  • Mark your calendars, Reesor Farm Market cracks its doors for the 2011 season tomorrow, June 9. I stopped by the farm last June to partake in some u-pick strawberry picking. I left with a huge salad bowl filled with juicy red ripe berries that cost me all of $7.50. I suggest you bring your own basket/bowl/collection receptacle so you don't have to purchase a basket. I was able to make 8 jars of jam from Ikea plastic salad bowl haul. Plus, picking your own food is just fun. It gives you untold powers you can't get at the grocery store (for berries anyway). They do spray their crops, but only once early in the season before any berries form to keep pests away. So if you are looking for organic, this is not it. The farm market, which is just off the main road, should not be passed up. They have an array of delicious baked goods and preserves in addition to fresh local produce for sale. I picked up some really fabulous dill pickles from there last year that make the grocery store kind taste like they've come out of a slop bucket at [insert generic fastfood chain]. You want these pickles! They have raspberries available for u-pick later in the season as well. Call them to make sure they are open before you head to Markham. Sometimes they places close for a day or two if they've been over-picked on the weekend.
