What a nice find by my daughter Tiffany G. for a homey, neighborhood Italian restaurant. After Frankie's on Morehead closed, and we moved too far from Ciro's in University City, I didn't realize how much I missed the joyous, casual, celebratory spirit that is unique to the Italians: gioia della vita! Portofino's delivers.
We reserved a table for six in the corner and raised our glasses to life's blessing last night. The place was slammed and our waiter never missed a beat. Thank you! All the food was very good, and my son's large calzone--wow! Monstrous. We joked it looked like a large pizza had fallen out of the oven and they folded it over and served it as a calzone. Humungous. Understandably, he took 2/3 of it home. In fact, we ALL took food home; Portofino's is generous with their portions. And fine on the wallet, too.
An absolute repeat, especially when it comes to family celebrations!
