| - So I stayed here for one night for a work trip, so I can't complain TOO much, but if it had been my own money I would have been pretty annoyed at what I got for the price.
Things I would expect from a nicer hotel that they didn't have:
1. Room service - no room service despite restaurant in hotel. Apparently they're in some sort of transition so should eventually have, but currently do not.
2. Regular coffee in room. They had k-cups for decaf and for Earl Grey tea, but no regular coffee. Bizarre.
3. Curtains! There were two sets of windows in my room - one set had these thin white shades plus curtains. But of course the set of windows facing a VERY brightly lit parking garage only had the thin white shades, NO curtains! It let so much light in that I had to use an eye mask to get to sleep. That was the kicker for me. I also told them about this when I checked out (thinking mayyyybe in that room they just forgot curtains on that one set of windows) and they didn't seem concerned or apologetic at all. If you're going to have a room facing a brightly lit parking garage, you should probably adequately be able to block out the light.
4. Light switches in reasonable places. Yes, I know this one is nitpicky - but the main light switch for the room was hidden behind the room's wardrobe. I had to reach behind the wardrobe to get to it. Thought that was a bit odd too.
5. Space. I know nicer hotels can still have pretty small rooms, especially in a city like New York, so this one was less of a shock, but in Pittsburgh expected a bit more space than I got. Could barely squeeze between the bed and the desk. This wasn't so bad, but once again, not awesome.
6. When I arrived no one was at the desk and there wasn't a bell or anything so I sort of had to shout "Hello?" to get someone to come out. Granted, I arrived on the later side, but there should be a sign, bell, or something to let customers know what to expect if no one is at the desk.
Things they did, in fact, do well:
1. The toiletries were pretty nice. They were standard in terms of what they had, but the quality of them were pretty nice.
2. The bed was very comfortable and had nice sheets.
3. Cleanliness - everything was nice and clean.
4. Water bottles in room. Always a nice-to-have.
5. Convenient location.
6. Free WiFi.
7. Easy/fast checkout.
I didn't end up eating any of the food so can't speak to that, but mostly because there was no room service and I had very limited time at the hotel. At the end of the day this hotel was nice enough, but there were some pretty basic expectations that were clear misses here.
