| - First, I want to preface this by saying I very rarely write reviews in fact I had to sign up to write this but I felt compelled to write to let people know how wonderful of a professional Dr. Yu is for anybody that is contemplating joint replacement surgery in the near future. I recently had my left knee replaced (12/12/17) and it wasn't the first surgery performed by Dr. Yu on me and with good reason. He performed a hip replacement on me almost two years ago and I'll also be having him replace my shoulder in the upcoming months as well.
I spent one day in the hospital and in that brief stay I lost count of how many times the nurses and therapists marveled at not only how well I was able to move around so quickly and the level of pain after surgery but ALL of Dr Yu's patients compared to other patients of other doctors - a fact I was able to witness firsthand for myself. I saw patients of other doctors labor in obvious pain with very limited mobility and these were patients still in the hospital three and four days respectively after their surgery.
I was sent home with a pain pump drip designed to deliver a constant numbing of the nerve for the knee area for four days but after two days I somehow inadvertently in my sleep completely ripped the catheter out which was taped to and inserted in the inside of my thigh. I called Susie the surgery scheduling nurse who is a gem in her own right and told her what had happened. Since I was feeling zero pain we decided to see how things played out versus going and have it put back in again. I also received a concerned email from Dr. Yu. I'll be the first to admit I'm a big time wuss when it comes to even a little pain and discomfort and now I'm expecting and bracing for the onslaught of pain once the numbing of the nerve wore off but was never to be in fact, although of course prescribed pain medication, never had to take even one single pill. Amazing.
When colleges and professional sports teams choose for their teams a head orthopedic surgeon, they choose only the best of the best, and elite surgeon who's incredible skill, knowledge and expertise will determine whether that young man that's lying on the operating table in front of them will continue on and make millions in the NBA, MLB or NHL. Professional sports teams have millions of dollars invested in these athletes. They don't just hire anyone to operate on their athletes. UNLV chose Dr. Yu. That speaks volumes. For me, it's easy to see why they chose him. At 59 years of age I'm certainly not a million dollar athlete nor the potential to be one but Dr. Yu will approach your surgery as if you were. Not to be lost in any of this is his wonderful bedside manner. You'd be hard pressed to find a more sincere, genuine and caring doctor.
From the classy office to the very helpful and caring Ian and the rest of the staff all the way down to Susie who makes all the paperwork, insurance and surgery scheduling painless and smooth, I would absolutely highly recommend Dr Yu.
