  • I only live a few blocks from this place, heard lots of people sing the praises so I finally tried it for myself. It's larger inside than it appears from the outside. It's basically a small grocery store built inside what was probably a vegetable stand from the 1940's or something. It's not like any modern grocery store, except maybe one in central America or Jamaica. The impression I got looking over the produce is it's mostly the exact same stuff sold a few blocks away at Fry's except in worse condition. Most of the plastic bag roll holders were empty, lots of bruised and squishy food that should be firm. Waxed food just like at Walmart and Fry's and Sprout's, same exact crap veggies, except in worse condition. Nobody sells worse corn on the cob than Fry's, SRM's is one notch better. Apples are not naturally shiny. Theirs are because they're sprayed with wax, same as all the other stores, probably any hard-outside veggie is also waxed. While their prices may be lower than Fry's the quality is basically the same or worse. I would tend to think the shelf life of what you buy here would be shorter than Fry's because so much of it is well on it's way to the trash can anyway. They got all sorts of veggies out of season so you know they came from huge refrigerated warehouses in california and mexico. This is likely not much of a local farm to the store type place. Sure they're cheaper but the quality is much lower too. I've seen discount grocery stores like this before, they buy in bulk, pennies on the pound of stuff that the wholesaler couldn't sell or was returned by places like Walmart about to expire. They buy it cheap to move it fast. Do not think for one minute that the produce this place sells is any healthier or natural than the produce at Walmart. This place is like one of those 'dented can' stores. It's a great place to buy veggies and fruit if you're really poor. I'll tell you what this place would be ideal for, is if you were going to take everything you buy there, wash it and run it through a juicer the day you purchase it, then this might be a good place to buy veggies and fruits, just don't think it's any more natural or local than Walmart produce.
