  • Among the sea of trendy, hip, all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants, there is a jewel of a sushi establishment that sticks to a more traditional flair with quality ingredients, friendly staff, and a homey atmosphere. This place reminds me of a lot of sushi places of the late 90s, early 2000s. You know, those small mom & pop shops, but with a tasteful updated decor and aesthetic style. It just feels welcoming. As soon as you're seated, you're greeted with a warm moist towel. A rare sight to see these days at any restaurant. They're refreshing, clean, comforting, and very Japanese. I could already tell that this was going to be a good dining experience at that point. I came here for good sushi, and that is all I ordered. The salmon and yellowtail nigiri were great. Smooth, buttery, and tasted so fresh. However, the chutoro nigiri was just so, so good. It was worth the $14 for those pieces. The rest of my orders were a salmon roll, negihama roll, and negitoro roll. All again very good, but the negitoro roll tasted amazing. Almost divine. It's just something about that combination of the fish and scallions that add an extra dimension of flavor that is almost mindblowing. I'm a guy who enjoys minimal ingredients at the tastiest levels, so this was a near perfect meal. The presentation of the dishes are also noteworthy. The nigiri pieces were beautifully and precisely cut, served on a curved stone plate, and the rolls neatly placed, also on a unique stone plate. If you want to take a break from the AYCE scene, or you're ready to take the next step into a more authentic Japanese dining experience, then Sushi Hiro is the place to go.
