  • Update: 11/8/16 WHO WAS THE CHEF LAST NIGHT (11/7/16) BECAUSE THAT WAS THE BEST MEAL THERE YET! Workman's Friend is great, but tends to lack in consistency. Some days the food is the best ever, some days it's over salted. I'm a huge fan of the lamb. Always good. The jus sauce it comes with tastes different almost every time. Haha. Last night though. The lamb was the best I've ever had it. Tender!! Delicious. Perfectly seasoned. And their frites was especially crispy last night. Couldn't stop eating it! And wasn't soggy from lamb juices. All in all... Whoever was working the kitchen last night was on point. I hope they maintain that consistency because it is a GAME CHANGER. ------- My experience with Workman's Friend food has been a contradictory one. Usually delicious, with some really really unusually not-so-delicious moments. But definitely more delicious to keep coming back! For example: That cast iron skillet chicken is fantastic in all its simplicity. It comes with a delicious side of beer battered asparagus, but also comes with their Mac N Cheese, which ruins to flavor of everything else. Ahh! I know. That's harsh. But believe me, I've tried it multiple times. I love Mac and cheese. And I love chicken. And I love them together... But THIS Mac and Cheese... It's not doing it for me. I'm not sure if there's truffle added to it? It doesn't really strike me as a truffle Mac and Cheese. But there's something strong there that is extremely distracting and conflicting with the tastes of everything else. But I'll be honest here, I've found myself with stacks of containers of their leftover mac and cheese in my fridge, in an attempt to maybe like it more, by itself, one day. It just hasn't happened. What is it?? What is in it that just isn't working???? Anyway, back to great stuff again. Their shepherd's pie is wonderful! As mentioned by others. However, I have come across a batch of overly salted versions. So, hopefully they'll be more consistent! But otherwise, delish! Their meat and cheese plate I had once was pretty good. As was the chicken liver toasts! Their poached peach and arugula salad is a fave of mine. And let's not forget, their sliders!! Oh yes. Beauty!! Brussel sprouts I found to be undercooked and too bitter. I've tried this multiple times too. But all in all! Pretty damn good. I just wish there was an option for a mashed potato side. Just give me some of that mashed potato with the shepherd's pie and replace the Mac and Cheese with it in that skillet chicken dish!
