| - This review will be about my digital perm and cut experience with Yuna Bu (level 2 stylist). The whole process took 3 hours and costs $269 after tax with $20 tip.
I booked an appointment for 5:15PM on a Friday night and took whatever stylist available. I trust that they were professionals.
Yuna spoke English to me and was a very nice lady. When I told her I wanted a perm, she recommended the digital perm to me. Overall, the results turned out good, but I think she lacked the experience of a level 3 stylist. Here are the reasons why:
1. She washed my hair with cold water until I notified her and got soap/water into my ears. I'm not sure she realized.
2. It felt like she was not confident in the way she cut my hair and did not explain to me what she was doing. We agreed on a photo she showed me in a magazine, so I trusted her professional judgement.
3. During blow dry, she blew a long piece of my hair straight into my eyes. It was because of the way she angled the blow dryer on my face. Anyways, I teared up to get it out and she immediately apologized. Seriously?!?
4. Next, she applied the chemical solution into my hair. Again, never explained to me what she was doing, and at one point, splattered chemical onto my chest (thankfully I had on a salon cape)...it was literally inches away from hitting my eyes/face!!! She also got the chemical solution onto my ears, which caused this irritation that looked like a small red rash (view photo). Normally they give you a ear protector or try their best to avoid this area.
6. Digital perming--took a long time to roll up my hair and the sponge pads she inserted kept falling off. Eventually another stylist had to come over and assist her.
7. She applied the heating machine into my rollers and since she left a few areas on my neck without the sponge protection, my neck was burning.
8. She did not tell me how to care for the perm, knowing it is my first digital perm. Just told me to use mousse and scrunch up damp hair. Found out that you aren't suppose to shampoo for at least one or two days!
Overall, the perm came out nice but the stylist lacked experience.
