| - A GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS STORY
About 3 1/2 years ago, Penny Electric performed the initial install on my Caldera spa and the work, by and large, went off without a hitch save an issue finding the correct 30A circuit breaker. I'd say that was a 4.5 star job.
Fast forward to March 2017. The 30A breaker started tripping making my spa unusable. Like an idiot I pulled the breaker out (screwed up and chopped off a grounding wire) and thought I could just buy a new one. My bad-that breaker is expensive and not easy to find.
Enter Penny Electric. I called and told them I need a tech to replace the breaker and gave them make and model number. Scheduling folks were nice and got a tech out in a few days, but without the breaker. He tried a place or two close to my house without luck. He told me I'd be better off paying him the $125 fee for the failed service call, buying it myself, and then getting him back out to install it. OK-- I did that. 8 days later the breaker arrives and Penny sends out the same tech. Very nice guy who spent 10 minutes installing breaker. That didn't fix my spa but I knew it was a long shot so no problem, UNTIL he told me he had to bill me AGAIN.
Needless to say, I was taken aback by that and told him I'd already paid him last time and that fee should have taken care of the issue since the original call had been a 'can't do anything' service call. Was I wrong. He got on the line with his office and told me I needed to pay AGAIN for the job that wasn't done the first time.
Long story short--after talking to a couple front office folks they let the second charge slide, which was certainly fine except for the fact that no one I spoke to was willing to admit that it was crazy trying to charge me for the same job twice. Their position was that I should have been told their pricing when I first called or should have checked their web site (no prices there).
So bottom line--things eventually worked out but I'd say BEWARE and make sure you understand their interesting pricing model before you contract with them. I'm giving them three stars because of their original good work and the fact that this job finally worked out, but it'll be a story I'll tell for quite a while
