| - Let me just say that this has been, by FAR, the WORST experience of my life. I took my two daughters (ages: 1 & 3) to their 11:30am storytime. What a mistake. This is only the beginning of the debacle that is Summerlin Library.
There was a puppet show today. I was excited for my girls to see it. In one of the scenes, they had the puppets calling each other "stupid" repeatedly!!! This is a children's storytime, not a young adult/adult thing. After that, it gets worse. The next scene in the Princess & a Frog story is the princess complaining about having to do dishes & cook; scolding the prince, followed by a, "I should've NEVER kissed you & I wouldn't be in this situation!!"
The final straw? My one year old got hurt out in the children's library, which is in it's own section AWAY from the regular library. She started crying- isn't that a natural reaction for a baby when they get hurt?
I decided to take the kids outside until she calmed down. Well, my 3 year old had her heart set on a particular book to check out. I told her we would come back & check it out after the baby calmed down.
Naturally, at 3 years old, many kids this age are prone to meltdowns at the drop of a hat. She started crying, too. I'm pushing my baby in the stroller & holding my 3 year olds hand as we are exiting the library.
A man comes up to me (the MANAGER) and tells me we need to leave, now. I said I am in the process of leaving- do you not see me heading toward the door? He motions to 2 other employees and has them PHYSICALLY BLOCK the entrance to the children's library. Like I was actually going to bring my screaming, crying children back inside, right?!
He keeps on me, saying rude remarks. He then states that I need to leave "faster" and if I didn't, he would call SECURITY. I was of no threat to them- I was LEAVING. At this point, my three year old was scared of him & crying already. He really was out of line. I asked him if he realized this was the children's section. I also asked him if he's ever seen a kid meltdown or cry before. He does work there and "manages" the library, including the children's section, after all!
Filed a complaint with the director's office and am waiting to hear a reply.
We will NEVER go here again.
