| - Nothing says "Fröhliche Weihnachten!" (Merry Christmas!) like Stollen. I've searched high and low for delicious Stollen in Las Vegas, and all I could find were boxed Stollen that just didn't appeal to me. Ah, but I've finally found the perfect Stollen. Funny, though, it never dawned on me before to visit the German Bread Bakery (duh!). If you've never had a slice or engulfed a whole loaf, then you're in for a treat. Stollen is like fruitcake....
Wait, hold on, don't stop reading! Well, maybe you should because that means there'll be more Stollen for me! But really now....
Stollen can be likened to fruitcake, but its texture is more like bread than cake. Unlike fruitcakes which typically have candied fruits, Stollen doesn't have any of that. The German Bread Bakery's Stollen loaf contains raisins, slivered almonds, marzipan, and is dusted with a nice coat of powdered sugar. A loaf costs $9.95, and I'm guessing it weighed nearly a pound -- indulge, carb lovers.
There's nothing wrong with boxed Stollen (or fruitcake). If you feel inclined to try one, I'd suggest trying Oebel brand that can be found at Cost Plus. However, I don't think I can go back to eating boxed Stollen after having tried German Bread Bakery's.
Vielen Dank to German Bread Bakery for the awesome Stollen. I think it's about time I give em a 5-Star rating.
