| - This show is the rare combination of bad staff, bad production, and bad performers. My wife and I have been to a lot of shows, both here in Vegas and elsewhere. This is literally the only show we have hated and it's not even close.
We went for the 8:30 show on a Tuesday evening. We got our tickets in advance and only had to pick them up. We picked them up at 7:55 and were told that, although the doors open at 8:00, we should just come back at 8:15 so we don't have to wait in line. At that time there was no line of people waiting to enter. We get some drinks and hung out in the bar right next to the theater entrance.
At 8:10 we note that there's now a massive line that goes several hundred feet. The seats are assigned, so we just wait for it to die down. Time passes. It's now 8:35 and... the doors finally open. We've been waiting 35 minutes for the doors to open, as well as hundreds of other people in line. Nobody has announced anything. Medical issue? Problems with the stage? We never found out.
Eventually we make our way to our seats. There's still a long line of people coming in, but I guess at 8:50 they decide to finally start the show. They dim the lights and the show begins, but people are still trying to find their seats, so now ushers are running around shining flashlights in everyone's face which is causing people to get upset.
My wife and I had seats near the front of the general admission area and they were nominally decent seats. A pillar blocked the far right side of the stage for me. Additionally, I am 6'3" and of course there is some super huge guy and smelly guy right in front of me blocking 30% of the stage, so I keep having to look around him.
As for the show itself, it was absolutely awful. The best way I can describe it is if someone decided to make a show with no theme and little continuity, and picked the acts from performers who had tried and been rejected from every other show on the west coast.
I've seen comedians, I've seen prop comedy, I've seen the guy in the large hoop, I've seen audience participation, I've seen magic, I've seen hanging acrobats. The ones here are the worst, by far. There was also a really odd act like a cowboy doing a hybrid pole dancing/acrobatic display. The people here have some level of skill, but the acts are generally too short one-trick acts. Some of this is hampered by the theater and stage size, so you can't really have performers swinging over the audience look impressive if they only get 10 feet off the ground and go out into the audience 10 feet as well. Clearly their acts change frequently because I'm looking at other reviews, even recent ones, and noting that there were some different performers.
The main point I'm trying to make is that half of the entertainers have little or no entertainment quality, and the other half have some entertainment quality, but I've seen super cheap and free shows where people were doing the same thing but 10x better. I think if all the performers from the show went on something like America's Got Talent that more than 50% of them would be rejected from the "next round".
I really can't reiterate enough how awful everything about this show is. We've seen super cheap shows in Vegas, like Mac King, Kevin Lepine, and Adam London. We've seen MJ Live, Blue Man Group, and multiple Cirque shows. All of these shows, yes even the $10 shows, are better run and more entertaining than this. I LIKE variety shows. Zarkana was one of my favorite shows period -- not just variety, but anything! This show is just absolutely awful.
Another thing to note is that the sound leaks in badly from nearby theaters. I think Zombie Burlesque goes on in an adjacent theater. It was so loud we couldn't even hear the performers in front of us multiple times.
Tickets are $80 plus taxes and fees, but you can get them for half price online. Even at $40 a ticket this is a complete ripoff. Funnily enough, during the course of the show the performers gave away 11 tickets to other shows here at the V. Maybe this is how they keep attendance up?
In any case, thanks for ruining our date night!
