Evan's on Van Buren is a great environment with awesome people and I support all black owned businesses because "duh", but the food itself was just okay. I really expected more since I had heard good things, but the sides (probably one of the most important things about soul food) were really under-seasoned and didn't have that slap yo' mama taste that I had been expecting. Also, there were a lot of things on the menu that were not ready or made yet which was a bit disappointing as my family had been looking forward to certain items. As far as the location, the parking is a bit tight and not in the best area of Phoenix.I think I would try this place again, but wouldn't give it a raving review for my first time.
