  • I must say, I loved Basi but that has been ruined recently by a micromanaging and rude owner. The restaurant has a great ambiance and the food is good. My last visit was horrible though. I typically take my team and my clients out to lunch at this location. The wait is a little long and the price isn't exactly cheap. This past visit, I am with a client and she orders a different noodle in her dish. She substituted a cellophane noodle for a flat noodle. The dish was brought out with the cellophane noodle, not what she ordered. We sent the dish back for the correct noodle ordered. This is apparently not cool at Basil. Some random man wearing jeans, cheap tennis shoes, a wrinkled untucked button up, and a cheap basil hat (who was later identified as the owner) comes out and starts quietly yelling at my client; telling her that ordering a different noodle was not allowed and that substitutions are no longer allowed per a new policy on the menu. He wouldn't even let us explain what we wanted, he just spoke over us. He then offered us another dish or the same dish she was originally given or we don't eat, no exceptions where given here even though this was a new policy which no one was aware of. He would have us rather walk out than get what we want. The funny part of this is that the exact same substitution was made the week prior over the phone. I then asked the waitress for a menu and read this "new" policy which stated TWO EXCEPTIONS COULD BE MADE PER DISH. The owner stated that changing a noodle wasn't an exception and that it ruined the integrity of the dish. I'm sorry but changing a noodle counts as an exception. This isn't a 5 Star restaurant, I can order what I want when I am paying $15 for a few noodles tossed in a pre-made sauce. I paid $40 for our horrible meal and left angry; the owner didn't even apologize or provide a discount to us. The waitress even said sorry to us and that she didn't believe in the policy. The owner here is a thai food nazi. He doesn't understand customer service and being polite. He will no longer get my business, don't go here if you're trying to impress anyone or like being treated as a guest. I get better service at Chick Fil A.
