This is the best wine bar in Pittsburgh, in my opinion. That doesn't make it 5 stars but it gets close. The wine selections are top notch and not wine you'll find anywhere else in the city. I think that sets it apart as does the owners' search for wines to bring back home for us sheltered PA State Store patrons. If only we had a private liquor enterprise... but I digress, and get saddened. Their travels to explore wine regions is an interesting read on their blog. They will often feature wine styles or wine regions in their ever changing offerings.
The small space is both a drawback and an advantage. It's tough to meetup with more than a couple friends here but that also means you can have a quiet, reflective time with your SO and enjoy spectacular wines. Happy Hour? With $4 half pours you can take yourself on a wine journey without breaking the bank or getting too tipsy. And the cheese/fruit trays? Awesome complement to delightful wines.
Staff has always been superb and knowledgeable. We need more places like Allegheny Wine Mixer.
