| - I just moved to Phoenix and have only lived on the West Coast for a few years now, but I am Italian, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY to a family in the Italian bakery business in Greenwich Village for 30+ years, so I know what real, authentic Italian food and hero's are supposed to taste like. I know good food in general, and Defalco's blew my mind.
I ordered 1/2 of eggplant parm hero and 1/2 of a portobello mushroom hero, and it was the closest thing to NY food I had had in years from Florida to Los Angles. I thought I was back in Brooklyn. It was out of this world good.
My husband is a native of New Jersey, and he was stunned to see Taylor ham on the menu as that is a traditional NJ classic, and only people from that area would know of such a sandwich.
He ordered 1/2 of Cheesesteak hero and a 1/2 of Chicken cutlet parm hero, and though the Chicken cutlet hero was amazing, not one piece of fat and cooked to perfection, that Philly cheesesteak brought him back to his childhood at the Jersey Shore and was reminiscent of Pat's Pizza in Point Pleasant. He said it is the best he has tasted since moving out of NJ.
We just can't believe this family is not from Brooklyn because the food is as close to Brooklyn and East Coast as you will ever taste in this part of the country.
We were impressed and nostalgic after eating there today, and I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a taste of NY as you have always remembered it to be.
Simply amazing!
