  • IDENTITY THEFT! Yes, this is where I am starting. I have been a member for 15 years. I became a member because the clean little AZ gym I was at was bought out by LAF. At the beginning LAF had early morning classes, trainers, people keeping the place clean and it was pretty good. Over the years it now is dirty and has ZERO early morning trainers or classes. So I get almost nothing that I was promised by LA Fitness. After receiving more almost a dozen calls to my house by many different people to renew I finally called back. My renewal is 8.12 and the calls started early June. When I discussed my renewal with Ashley 972-517-0294 I told her that I only went 2 days a week at 5.45am. She pulled my record up and said I had attended other locations including 1 in CA. When I told her that was not possible she said someone must be using my phone number to attend. I told her that was fraud and that the only way I would renew was for them to restrict any access to my personal identity information and stop people from using it. She agreed that could be done. I thought about it, then called back and renewed for 8.12.15 to 8.12.16. On my next visit I asked the front desk for a current history and the person told me I had visited another location just the day before. Again this was not me or family. This violated my trust with LAF so I called and started the process of cancelling my membership, getting a refund (I pay annually) and asking them to purge my personal records. I did say that I wanted to pay cash for 5 months to clear the decks then I would renew again in January. After much frustration on the call to Corporate they said to go see the Area Manager at my Club. This is what transpired. ME = LAF Corporate and your front desk told me that people are using my phone number to gain access to the Club, even after I made stopping that a condition of renewal. - HER = No that is just other employees accessing your personal history and information to call you about renewing. ME = Ashley and your front desk told me that people were using my phone number to attend the gym. HER = That is wrong. ME = These are LAF people telling me that fraud is occurring. HER = They're still wrong. ME = I only renewed when I was promised that no one could access my account. HER = They can't do that. ME = It was a condition of renewal agreed to by your people. ME = So, you have random employees accessing my personal information from all over to call and harass me about renewing. HER = Your contract says we can and the employees sign a confidentiality contract. ME = I just want to close my account, get a refund, and pay cash for a while since I am NOT happy that your people tell me fraud is occurring and that random employees can access by personal information when they please. HER = We can cancel you but we will keep the money. ME = You will throw away a 15 year relationship for $300 after you agreed that many people have unlimited access to my personal information. I am a CPA and that can lead to Identity Theft. HER = We won't refund your money. ME = Any company that cares about their customer relationship, especially after 15 years, would be accommodating in this case since it was your people that told me about fraud, no matter how you "clarify" it. You are throwing away a long term relationship. Don't you want me to come back again? HER = Of course. ME = Then you need to understand that your people have driven me to the point that I don't trust what is occurring and only am asking for a simple accommodation. HER = It's after 6pm. Can you schedule a time to come back? ME = Will it make any difference? HER = No. Here are some of the random employees that called me accessing my personal history and account: Chris-630-503-7749; Jessica-425-290-9351; Brendan-703-334-0439; Ashley-972-517-0294. Look at all the different area codes! My renewal dates don't begin for another month. LAF has not incurred any expense nor given any services. You need to know that LAF gives out blanket approval, for anyone at any level, anywhere, access to your personal information. If you are concerned with Privacy and Identity Theft, do not look to LAF to be concerned for you.
