| - This place is awesome. There's no other way to start out the review. Walking in and seeing an international wall of beers, conveniently organized by style, nearly brought tears to my eyes. However, I've found myself gravitating away from beer over the past few years and favoring whiskey. Well, Lizardville has me covered there too. They have me covered so well that I hate driving there because I know I can get in trouble real easy if I pull out all the stops. But since we're on the topic, the location leaves a little to be desired - in a suburban strip mall without much of a neighborhood atmosphere.
I apologize, that sounded really elite hipster-ish. Rest assured, I drive a car, not a fixie bike, so getting there really isn't a problem. But they make up for the strip mall atmosphere with a nice patio with outdoor bar (beware if you're bothered by cigar smoke) and a cozy, if small, saloon-like restaurant inside.
Let's talk about the whiskey. There is a list of whiskeys that fills up a binder the size of a photo album. They have bourbon, rye, scotch, Irish, Canadian and things that defy categorization. They have amazing bourbons at a reasonable price, and stuff that I hope one day my drunk friends will mistakenly order for me because it's so expensive. I've never been a fan of scotch. Something about that smoky taste and the fact that my first taste of scotch was Johnny Red. I will never stop trying to find a scotch that I like, and Lizardville makes it quite easy to point me in the right direction with their MAP of scotch flavors. Very cool. Who the hell put that map together? How much scotch must be drunk to do that?
On to the food. I was expecting Winking Lizard food - not bad for bar food, but nothing you'll rave about. Lizardville's menu is much smaller, but the quality is much higher than WL. The beer cheese dip is the best I've had, and I love the wings. A note on the wings - they are offered as breaded or unbreaded. I love breaded wings, and I especially love breaded wings with hot sauce on them. Lizardville wings are usually prepared with sauce on the side, but I always request that they be tossed in the sauce and the staff has always obliged. And they are outstanding with breading and soaked in the hot sauce. Everyone should order them like this so that the staff starts tossing them in sauce all the time and I don't feel like a pain for asking.
What else can I ask for? Maybe a happy hour? I don't care if it's at 4pm, I'll be there.
