| - I've been to the Deli maybe twice before. While the food has always been serviceable, albeit somewhat overpriced for the quality, the speed and relative ease of grabbing a quick bite there was appealing. Finding myself in a rush between meetings today, I stopped in for a sandwich and a few minutes of much hoped-for peace and quiet only to be greeted by some of the rudest customer service I've ever encountered. In high school and college, I worked in a lot of restaurants to put myself through school, and dealt with a lot of aggravating customers. In all those jobs the golden rule of working in the service business was to serve people what they wanted. Imagine my chagrin, running full on annoyance, when the gentleman behind the counter informed me that no, I did not in fact want the sandwich I ordered. Smiling at what I thought was his joke, I said I did, only to be 'corrected' by him again. And again. Loudly. At which point he began to fix a sandwich I didn't order. With cheese, which I had already said I didn't want. Repeatedly. Only once the woman working the side dishes behind the counter swatted his shoulder did he grumpily slap together the meat and bread into the sandwich I asked for (about 1/2 the meat, sodden with grease from the bottom of the dish, flew all over the plate instead of landing on the bread). While the girl next to him mouthed a silent 'sorry', unbelievably the owner of all people, working the register, started to charge me for the sandwich I didn't order! Between the rudeness of being snarled at by the sandwich maker and the astounding lack of interest from the owner I will never be returning to this overpriced joke, and will be advising all those I encounter to give it as wide a berth as possible.
Oh, and the sandwich that was covered in grease, with a coke? Thirteen bucks.
