I can't rate these folks highly enough. We live in a home that's about 12 years old that had two 13 SEER Yorks (builder quality). We've had yearly service with Right Now Air, who suggested we replace the units after a loud condenser sound on one of them.
So I decided to get a few quotes on replacing both. I've always been interesting in Trane due to the low repair frequency determination by Consumer Reports. Low and behold, a promotion at Home Depot was going on that very week, so I set up an in home consultation with them. They had a nice Trane unit and Rheem FAU on display right there on the end of the aisle! Home Depot sent over Yes Air Conditioning for the consult. Mike pushed their POS Amana units for $23K and bad mouthed Trane. Nice bait and switch!
Right Now Air said they didn't lock themselves to any particular manufacturer but pushed another set of Yorks for 26K! They also really pushed their "air cleaning" units primarily. I'm sure they get a nice commission off those! What the hell?
I then decided to hop onto the Trane website and actually find some Trane contractors. Got a Trane quote from Jay at Elite after he did a cursory examination of our home. Really nice guy but he seemed more interested in shooting the breeze.
Ray from Sun Country (owner) bid last. He was very thorough and informative. He explained there was a Trane rebate currently and went over all our options. His bid came in thousands below Elite for the same units. I asked him about his company and said they were family-owned with consistently high feedback received. I asked him if there were any veteran's discounts, but he stated Trane doesn't normally do that if there was already a significant rebate.
A few days later he said he'd contact Trane about any military discounts being offered. Although Trane didn't get back to him, he said he'd still knock off $1300 because they do military appreciation in May. Awesome! So I get some great top of the line 20 SEER Trane units for LESS than the 16 SEER York and Amana!
The install went quick and the workers were very clean and professional. Unfortunately, one of the new thermostats was acting funky 24 hours later. Ray had Brian come over the NEXT day to swap it out. A couple of days later I noticed the airflow on one unit didn't seem as strong as the other. Again, the following day, Ray had technicians come over and do a flow test. They determined that some dampers had blown shut on initial startup and fixed the problem.
I'm a happy camper! I'll be using these guys from now on for all my service needs!
