| - I lived at Horizon Ridge for two years. This is a long review because, when I was moving in, I would have liked to read something like this.
I was reluctant to even visit this apartment complex because I read so many negative online reviews: people who said that the staff was difficult to work with, that they were overcharged for move-out costs, and so forth. I was working with a realtor -- looking mainly at condos for rent -- and he felt strongly that I should consider Horizon Ridge. He was also in the rental market for his elderly mother and, after doing his research, was comfortable with her moving into Horizon Ridge. With that background, I agreed to visit. And I'm glad I did!
To start with, I have to say that Linda, who is the assistant manager for this property, really went above and beyond to help me on both small and big issues. Linda is amazing. When I wanted the pilot light relit on my gas fireplace for the third time, she was cheerful about sending someone to handle it (again). She also let me know that having that light on would raise my gas bill a little -- which makes perfect sense, but I hadn't considered the cost -- and she asked whether I wanted it on in the summer. It's a small thing, but it showed she was thinking for me.
On a more serious note, Linda oversaw the staff that worked on both of my move outs. After my first year at Horizon Ridge, I moved from one apartment to another. There was a stain in the first apartment's carpet; I was charged a very reasonable sum to clean it. There was also damage to the walls, and the apartment found a cost-smart way to repair it. And I still got a partial, nice-sized refund check on the security deposit. After my second year, the move-out costs were again processed in a reasonable way. Yes, they charge a flat-rate professional cleaning fee for even a clean apartment, but what new renter wants to move into the previous renter's idea of a clean bathroom? Going into Horizon Ridge, one of my biggest concerns was that move-out costs would be a headache. But after moving out twice, I'm very happy with Horizon Ridge.
In terms of the property itself, the pool stays clean, the workout room is adequate, my apartments both had floor plans that flowed nicely, and the granite countertops and crown molding looked great. The carpet was new in one of my apartments and a little older in the other; the apartment noted the older carpet before I moved in, so that I wouldn't be charged for it. Pest control visits the property every week. You can request a visit to your unit; I did once and that handled the problem. For other potential problems, Horizon Ridge contracts with a nighttime security service; the police sometimes cruise through. I've never seen an actual security problem. I never had any problem parking outdoors.
Finally, Linda is fantastic, but she isn't the only helpful person at Horizon Ridge. Hannah, the manager, does a good job of facilitating what happens at Horizon Ridge. And even after I moved in, the residential services office and the leasing people were both happy to answer questions.
This was a nice place to live -- and I'll miss the staff.
