  • My stomping grounds when I want to live it up and splurge a bit. I come here every new year countdown, and many times throughout the year to hit up Tao Nightclub, and to dine at one of the many fine restaurants this town has to offer. During the new year celebration, Las Vegas Blvd is closed down, and pedestrians take over the streets. This is done for the entirety of the strip, and there are multiple great fireworks shows when the countdown is over. Many people have told me that this place gets crazy, but I found it to be relatively chill. There are families that come here from all over the world, and it's more of an all-ages event. People can carry alcohol throughout the street, but only in plastic cups. There is LVPD everywhere, so no trouble is tolerated. In the past two years, I left LA at 6:00 PM and gotten to LV at around 11:00 PM. This gave my friends and I plenty of time to get drinks and wander the strip before the countdown. We also had to drive back to LA the same night/early morning. If you are planning to spend the night, you need to book a room several months in advance, or plan on sleeping in your car. I really don't recommend the latter, as it is very cold in the winter. That being said, dress warmly and come check out the festivities. You won't regret it.
