| - To be honest, the last time I had the original in NYC was years and years ago, and I can't actually remember how it tastes, so I may have romanticized the memory...but I feel like the original tasted much better. Which was to be expected, but I was hoping for more.
I came here at about 11:15am or so on a Saturday and there was no wait at all!
The orange rice didn't have much of a distinct flavour. The chicken tasted quite lean, like chicken breast, which means it was a little dry - it was also quite peppery. The beef tasted a little gamey, even though I was told there was no lamb in it, and it was also quite dry. The white sauce tasted fine, though kind of chalky and it was thicker than I expected. For some reason I remember the original to be thinner, more savoury, with more complex flavours, and much more delicious in general. And the hot sauce was hot but not as killer as the original, which I didn't mind. And as with the original cart, I didn't like the pita very much - I prefer mine to be thin and chewy, as opposed to thick and pillowy.
The price seems like a lot compared to the original, but if you translate the USD price to Canadian dollars, it's not that crazy, lol. For $11-12 though, I'd rather have a bowl of ramen or something.
I'm glad I tried it, but I probably won't be craving this. Which is too bad, because the people were super nice!
