| - As a wine blogger, I have been to hundreds of wineries and my expectations were fully exceeded in my visit to Carlson Creek yesterday, thanks to stellar service from Wendy and a portfolio of outstanding wine. I grew up in the area but no longer live in the state so while visiting my parents this past weekend, we decided to visit Carlson after reading an article in the newspaper about it. We had visited some wineries in Sonoita this past fall and knew AZ is producing some good wine, but I truly believe that Carlson is the pacesetter and is setting the bar pretty high for others! Wendy was kind enough to do some mini vertical tastings and was informative, engaging, and what every winery owner would hope for in a tasting room ambassador. The wines showed beautifully and we enjoyed every one of them for different reasons. Having done a lot of tastings, I particularly appreciated that bottles were recently opened, providing a tasting of how the wines will truly reflect at home when you open and serve immediately. My biggest pet peeve are wineries that pour wines that have been open 3-5 days and there are a lot of them out there! I was so impressed that I joined the club so that every time I come home to visit family, we can come see Wendy and pick up great wine to enjoy. We left with a 6-pack, to include the Chenin Blanc (thanks, Wendy, for the tip on drinking it room temperature), Cab Sauv, Rule of 3, and Syrah. If I had to pick my favorite, it would be the Syrah. It is beautifully balanced, complex and refined. Thanks for a great visit, Wendy, and we will be back!
