I had a chance to visit the university location of elevation church 11/1/15. It was quite the "experience" as they call it. While they were very welcoming to me as a first time guest I was very disappointed. Elevation worship was as I expected it - amazing. Beyond that my experience left me feeling like I had been anywhere but church.
I visited on 11/1/15. The service was built around the significance of the weekend which surprised me. There are demonic looking zombies on the video advertisements about visiting church not having to be scary. The even had a "thriller" dance on stage. I could have overlooked this if that was the only thing.
However Pastor Steven shared two things in his sermon, the haunted heart, that were not biblical. First he told of a game he played with his kids for the purpose of scaring them. This is not biblical. He laughed about it as he led into his second statement that was not biblical: children are a burden not a blessing. His statement was, "let's face it children are more of a burden than a blessing." While most laughed I cringed. That statement does NOT reflect they heart of God. And while some may say pastor was joking, it did not come across that way.
Given the caliber of worship and the level of influence I can only hope and pray the leaders have a change of heart.
