I have eaten at a lot of mainland Hawaiian places, with most all of them not much more than mediocre and some of them a lot less than mediocre. I have eaten at some of the best places in the islands, including Helena's where I have gone multiple times. I gots to tell ya that the food at Island Flavor is AT LEAST as good as Helena's, and in some respects even better. Everything was fresh, and real, and traditional. The place is family owned, with the family being from Kona on the Big Island. Portions were huge. The oxtail soup was to die for. Even the macaroni salad, which I normally hate, was very good with not too much mayo. This place is awesome, Brudah. Mahalo.
