I remember the first time I ever visited Top's Liquor. My first thought was, "Oh wow. What a mess." My second thought upon viewing the rows and rows of bottles lining both sides of every aisle was, "I think I might be in love with this place."
My love-at-first-sight reaction has proven to be well-founded. Top's Liquor has done an outstanding job of squeezing a massive amount of wide-ranging inventory into a relatively small space.
Skip the shiny retail experience of a BevMo or Total Wine and treat yourself to a truly unique experience here instead. Wander through narrow aisles lined with dusty bottles of alcohol like something out of a movie.
Listen for the inevitable cheery question from the closest staffer asking, "Can I help you find anything?" And expect them to mean it. Expect them to take the time to hear you out, and then expect them to excitedly introduce you to multiple tantalizing options.
Prices may be somewhat higher than the big name retailers, but only by a few dollars if at all, and I believe the total experience to be well worth it. I've never had a bad experience here, and I've always left with a drink I never knew existed prior to that visit.
I now live in north Scottsdale, but could definitely see myself driving back down here just for the joy of perusing these aisles. I've discovered some of my vey favorite spirits here. And the ambiance... The service experience... It just never gets old.
If you've never been to Top's Liquor, I can't recommend it highly enough. Especially if you live close by. Maybe consider leaving large purses and backpacks in the car because of the narrow aisles and precariously-staged bottles. And plan to stay a while!
I expect you'll love it here. I know I do. :)
